Eagle Boys franchise pushes nutrition labelling

Australia’s second largest pizza maker Eagle Boys Pizza has begun moves to ensure all stores are fully compliant with new nutrition labelling laws.

 

The New South Wales premier announced late last year that the government would introduce legislation mandating the disclosure of nutritional information at standard menu restaurants across the state.

 

Eagle Boys CEO Todd Clayton said Eagle Boys would take the NSW state government stance to the next level and introduce nutrition menu labels nationally across its franchise network.

 

“As well as complying with NSW state regulations, Eagle Boys will also implement nutrition labelling on its menu boards nationally, ensuring all Australians benefit from the scheme,” Mr Clayton said.

 

Mr Clayton said the move to nutrition labelling would be a phased approach, with the company set to have all its franchises compliant by the NSW government’s February 2012 deadline.

 

“Eagle Boys will also implement a staff training program, so that staff will be able to answer customer queries about the new nutrition tables and their importance,” he said.

 

Customers will see menu board nutrition labelling begin to roll out across Eagle Boys stores during the coming months.

 

Mr Clayton said Eagle Boys supported all moves to inform customers about their products so they could make educated choices.

 

“Eagle Boys Pizza has had nutrition information displayed on our website for many years and believes like all food, that our menu items should be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet,” he said.

 

Eagle Boys Pizza is Australia’s second largest pizza maker and is 100% Australian-owned. It operates more than 335 franchised stores throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, the ACT, and the Northern Territory, employing more than 8,000 staff and making more than 17 million pizzas a year.
