Eagle Boys franchise serves up dough for cerebral palsy research

To raise awareness throughout the nation and to assist in cerebral palsy research and fundraising campaigns, Eagle Boys Pizza will donate over $200,000 over the next three years to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

 

As a key aspect of the partnership, Eagle Boys will help fund a researcher to explore the causes of this complex condition, and to further develop the Australian Cerebral Palsy Register.

To kick-start the campaign, Eagle Boys will donate $1 from every dessert sold during Cerebral Palsy Week (August 1-7) to Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

 

In Australia, a child is born with cerebral palsy every 15 hours. It is the most common physical disability in childhood. Cerebral palsy is caused by an injury to the developing brain, which usually occurs before birth.

 

Eagle Boys Pizza CEO Todd Clayton said the prevalence and impact of cerebral palsy had spurred the pizza maker into action.

 

“Our work in delivering real taste, real size and real value pizzas in recent years has seen Eagle Boys enjoy strong growth. We now have a real opportunity to give back and support an organisation which is doing great work assisting children and adults with cerebral palsy, and also identifying its cause,” he said.

 

“Specifically, our support will help fund the work of Hayley Smithers-Sheedy who is a research officer for the Australian Cerebral Palsy Register at the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. She is working on programs to deliver a better quality of life for many children with cerebral palsy, and studying cytomegalovirus, one of the known causes of cerebral palsy.
